Today in class we took the essay part of our exam. I did A, C, and D. I thought my essays went really well. I pre-wrote yesterday, so I went in feeling prepared and ready. It was a lot to write three essays in fourtyish minutes, but I'm relieved to have it over and done with. I'm really sad that today was my last class with Mr. Schick. I had a lot of fun this semester with Mr. Schick, and I will definately remember Mr. Schick's west civ class when I am a senior. I hope that one day I will have Mr. Schick again.

Rome Test!
Today in class we took the Rome test. I thought it was medium overall. I knew a lot except, I had some difficulty on the government. I think I got those all right! I got an 88% on the test. I always get A's on Mr. Schick tests, so I was upset that I didn't get an A on this test. However, I did not really study for the test this weekend since I was at the beach. Then, we went and picked up our project from Mr. Schick's room. I'm starting my studying tonight for exam, but the past week I have been lightly reviewing while I make my quizlets. Thursday we take the essay portion of our exam, I will pick my last essay topic and start getting an idea of what I want to talk about in my exam essay.

Rome Test Tuesday!
Today in class we reviewed the big Rome powerpoint, to get ready for the test on Tuesday. I'm hoping for an A on this test, because I have a 94 and this could boost my grade up even more; along with the 200 point Rome project. I will definitely study hard this weekend, to prepare for the test. However, besides the Rome test this weekend I have to begin studying for exams.

Today in class we finished presentations. Everyone did an amazing job on their projects! You can tell everyone really put a lot of effort into their project. Mr. Schick informed us that next Thursday we would be given our exam essay and would take that portion early. I actually was happy to find that out since we will get the question in advance, so we can study the question.

Rome Presentations 2.0
Today in class my group, Alex and Arthur, and Jayla went. Jayla went first and she made Roman pottery. She did an excellent job, she knew a good amount of information on the pottery. Alex and Arthur made a model of a Roman structure. OMG. Their project was just breathtaking. It looks like they put a lot of effort into their project! I hope they get a 100% because their project was amazing. Next Trish and I went, I think we did a good job. It seems like everyone enjoyed our presentation. Mr. Schick really seemed to enjoy it. I had fun dressing like a plebeian for one mod. A toga is very comfortable!!

Rome Project Presentations 1.0
Today in class we started to present Rome projects. First Megan, Veronica, Zaire, and Rosemary went. They made a three-course Roman meal. They made salad, pasta, and Roman cheesecake. We also received apple/grape juice. They did a great job and the food was good. Next Steve, Adam, and Evan went. They made a parody of Iggy Azeala's song "Fancy". They did a great job! They put a lot of effort into it, except it did not seem like Adam put much work into it. He wasn't in the rap, and he showed up late. Overall, their group did an excellent job. Finally, David went. He's powerpoint on the Colosseum and Circus Maximus was filled with information. I don't think he had much of the creative aspect, however, he still did a good job. Overall, today everyone did a great job. Tomorrow I present with Trish, and I am really nervous. I have a few more things to do tonight, however, it will get done on time.

B B King and Rome Projects
Today in class Mr. Schick showed us a video of B B King, who died last night. I'm not a big fan of blues, but he was very talented at what he did. Pop Quiz!... Am I crying?
Today in class we took a pop quiz. I thought it was really easy except I got one mixed up that I should have gotten right. I got a 70% on it, but at least now I know what I got wrong. Then we got to work on our projects the rest of the mod. I finished up my recipes and wrote one diary entry. Tomorrow I will age paper with my secret trick and write more entries!

"Just grab some land"
Today in class we finished up the episode on Rome that talked about Tiberius and how he changed Rome forever. For now I have to start on my Roman cookbook for my diary! I can not believe we have a week to finish, freaking out. I feel like I procrastinated to much, but I have confidence in myself. LECTURE BREAK YAY :D
Today we had some technical difficulties in class, but we triumphed through them and watched our video on Evan's laptop. I really liked the video, it put some of the ppt. into a different perspective and it was a neat way of learning what happened. I'm looking forward to finishing the BBC movie.

Rome Lecture 1.0
Today in class we reviewed the Rome ppt. and we heard a lecture from Mr. Schick about Rome once again. I'm fine with lectures, I am just not a fan of the huge note taking, since it makes my pinky hurt. (stupid birth defect..), anyway class was really nice. Grandparents Day....... Rant........
Today in class was Grandparent's Day, which was a lovely day for grandparents and grandchildren. Unfortunately my grandparents could not attend due to "work" being done on their home. I was sad all day today because it was another day reminding me of how non involved my grandparents are. I'm used to it but I really wanted to show them the plaque outside the main office with all the freshman who got FIRST HONORS because my name is on that list. Then having to go home and write two essays that were due tomorrow and friend drama, my Thursday was peachy. But from this weekend on I will be at the beach every weekend until summer and then I will be down there for weeks at a time. Over all class was good today, yet depressing.

Baltimore Riots....
Today in class we discussed the riots in Baltimore, and Mr. Schick showed us a song that someone wrote 40 years ago that describes perfectly what is going on. The riots are really making me upset and a little angry. It makes me upset seeing how they are destroying Baltimore City. They are destroying their town!! When people call them protesters it makes me angry, because this is not protesting!! Setting cars on fire, severely injuring people, looting stores, burning buildings, is not protesting. This is very wrong, and they need to stop. The National Guard can not step in soon enough. They are putting people in danger, and people do not even feel safe in their home town!! WE ARE IN THE NEWS IN IRELAND AND KHLOE KARDASHIAN HAS POSTED ON INSTaGRAM "PRAY FOR BALTIMORE". Tons of celebrities are acknowledging our city, this is how bad it is. This has to stop, people are in danger. I'm praying for peace in Baltimore City. I mean the Archdiocese had to close schools. (Mercy, Curley, Calvert Hall, IND, NDP, and Catholic High) These riots are putting education on hold. We need to stop these riots.

Munchkins And Chi-Cago!
Today in class we went over Chi-cago's "When in Rome" rap and discussed it and went into more detail. Veronica brought in three boxes of munchkins which were really yummy so thank you Veronica! :) Then Mr. Schick talked to us about how his daughter came back into the US last night! Today's class literally made my day and whole week. We started Rome and in the middle of the power point, Ms. Jane calls the classroom. Jayla answers it and tells Mr. Schick his guest is here, so he gets his guest. A few minutes later Mr. Schick appears in a Chicago Bear sweatshirt wearing the hood and black sunglasses and he decided to rap to us on Rome. Roman Goddesses and Visum!
Today in class we didn't do much, Mr. Schick informed us that we will be doing a Rome project. I'm excited for it because we get to choose what we do, which makes it more enjoyable. I'm going to do a project with Carson, Kendall, and Veronica. We are going to do a Rome version of "The View" and dress up as Roman goddesses. Im really looking forward to starting the project!

The Allegory of the Cave... ooh ahh!
Today in class we watched an animated film about The Allegory of the Cave by Plato. The video was odd at first and I did not understand it that well until we discussed it and then got severely off topic. Overall it was about how you know what you see and if you have to think a certain way and don't question what is you will never learn to think for yourself and build your own ideas. You will have certain people who will break out and think for themselves.

Today in class we got back our Ancient Greece tests, and I got a 98 on mine so I got one wrong. I was so mad to see that the question I got wrong was the one that had nothing to do with Ancient Greece but then I had to be happy because then that proved that I know my Ancient Greece! Test Results and I Am Going To Teach :D
I got a 98 on my Ancient Greece test! Each question was worth two points and I only got one wrong!! I was so happy! Out of the three sections that took the test I got the highest score out of the three sections that took it!!! :D Also when we get back from break I will teach the class about Pompeii! I'm excited because I love Pompeii and I think the class will enjoy learning about it

Ancient Greece Test and Sweet Sweet Easter Break! :D
Today in class we took our Ancient Greece test and handed in our essays. I thought the test was easy, I studied well and I remember dates easily. I think I might have got one-three wrong at the most. Today in class we reported to classroom 111 for our teacher. My group is done our essay, we are just adding our citations and printing it out mod 4. I think we have an excellent paper, we have all worked equally and hard on this paper and I'm hoping for an A. Today was our last day with Mr. Schick for a bit, he is going to visit his daughter in the Netherlands. We will have subs for the rest of week which I like because we get a few days in class to work on our papers with our group members. (I'm not happy because you're leaving Mr. Schick I just appreciate that we get to work on essays). The last two groups presented their projects and did a great job. I have a lot of homework still left (English homework *sobbing*) so I don't have time to post my notes. I'll probably wind up this weekend editing this post and adding my three pages of notes (heads up haha)

Today in class two more groups presented their projects, Greece Art and Architecture, and Pericles and the Golden Age. I took notes on some of the important things that were in their presentations, here are the notes I took:
-Plays were written around 430 BC
-Tragedies and comedies
-Performed on special occasions
-Plato invented logic
-Golden Age ended because Athens wanted to become stronger and wanted Athens to become weaker
-Hoplites- the most common type of heavily armed foot soldier in ancient Greece

-Triremes- ancient boat called tremes because it has three banks of oars and was pretty fast, even though they were large it was light enough for the crew to carry back to shore

Presentations
Today in class my group presented our project on Athens, Sparta, and the Peloponnesian War. Our presentation went really well, Mr. Schick really liked it and I got compliments from two classmates on our Google slides powerpoint. Mr. Schick decided that these presentations will go on Quarter 3, which I'm really happy about. I have a 93 right now currently and the 100 points will raise my grade higher. Over all, class today went really well.

Today in class we took more notes on Ancient Greece, and Steve and Mr. Schick has a catfight with water and got it all over the place! It was so funny! Anyway here are some notes we took today in class:
Aristocrats: -During 6th and 7th BCE aristocrats ran the "show" in Greece
-Rich people have more power over middle class and poor
-Aristocracy- ruled by aristocrats
-Symposiums were their meetings
-At the meetings the elite men would basically get drunk on wine., listen to poetry, dance and acrobat performances, and hetaeras (courtesans) while talking about politics
-This club was exclusive
-No women were allowed inside except for the "entertainers"
-No middle class people and no slaves
-Certain aristocrats (didn't have right connections or fell out of favor)
Tyrants: Seize Control
-Sometimes aristocrats would form alliances with hoplites (well-armed soldiers) and set up alternative form of gov't called a tyranny
-Tyrant: someone who rules outside the framework of the polis
*-Modern meaning of tyrant an abusive or oppressive ruler

Catch Up Day and Broken Keypad!
Today we had a catch up day and we were able to work on our Ancient Greece project. I unfortunately had the pleasure of going to the Tech Lab. Right before west civ I dropped my computer while I was at my locker along with all my books. I was trying to put my laptop charger into my locker and then my hand slipped and BANG there goes my computer! Thank goodness for Mr. Russell, my computer is temporarily fixed for now, but eventually I will have to send my computer out. Our project I think is going really well! I think we are at a great place with our slides. We will have more done by the end of this weekend!

Today in class we facetimed Mr. Schick's daughter who is currently in France. Today it's her 20th birthday! After we finished our facetime session with Mr. Schick's daughter we started to work on our project. We started working on the Athens and Sparta portion of the project. The project is looking good so far and will get better as we put more time in and work on it more. I'm excited to see the final project of the project.

Today in class we continued the powerpoint on Ancient Greece. Mr. Schick had a show to put on for us. Suddenly he's a teacher and then he's blind and he's Homer. It was hilarious! It made my Tuesday. Mr. Schick is a really good actor. Any way here's the notes we took in class:
-Ionian Sea is south of Greece
-People in Greece either built ships, farmers, metal workers, weavers, and potters
-They had poor/limited natural resources so they needed to trade
-Fertile valleys cover one quarter of the peninsula only 20% is suitable for farming
-Their diet consists of grains, grapes, olives
-Lack of resources most likely led to Greek colonization
-The weather was mid-40's in the winter and mid 80's in the summer
-Mycenaeans started around 2000 BCE and they dominated Greece from 1600-1200 BCE *controlled trade in the region*
-1400 BCE the Mycenaeans invaded the island of Crete and took in the Minoan culture and language
-Dorians- the mysterious "sea people"
-About 2000 BCE they invaded the Mycenaeans and burnt palace after palace
-Dorians were far less advanced, the trade-based economy dropped, writing disappeared for 400 years (they never wrote anything down anyway)
-Homer was a blind storyteller who existed in the "Greek Dark Ages" era were they wrote nothing down
-Wrote Trojan War stories 750-700 BCe
-He wrote "The Odyssey" and "The Illiad"
-The Odyssey is 12,110 lines and is written in Dactylic Hexameter (long phrase then short phrase.. pattern continues)
-People wonder if Homer really existed "Homeric Question"
-People think that Homer might have been a mythical creature himself or he actually existed and he was just that awesome? I think he did exist and he was just so awesome it was beyond our human minds.
Special note to Mr. Schick, just want to say you really made my day today. That was hilarious, such a great actor.

Cyber Day 6.0!
Today for our 6TH cyber day assignment (who's counting anyway?) Mr. Schick is having us research on one of Greece's famous ancient philosophers. I chose Socrates because I've learnt about him before and he really intrigues me. I'm excited to learn more about him.
Socrates
Socrates lived from 470 BCE- 399 BCE. He lived in Athens, Greece. Sophroniscus and Phaenarete a Athenian stone mason and midwife, were his parents. When Socrates got older he married a woman named Xanthippe and then had three sons. Their sons were Lamprocles, Sophroniscus, and Menexenus. Besides philosophy Socrates earned money for his family by teaching. Socrates wasn't involved much in raising his sons, he showed more care in the development of the young Athenian boys. Since Socrates lived in Athens he was required to serve in the military, he served in the infantry. Socrates called his philosophy method, the "Socratic Method". Socrates thought philosophy should get results for the greatest well-being of society. He wanted to develop an ethical system that relates on human logic rather than theological doctrines. Socrates believed Athens was a classroom, so he went around asking questions trying to find political and ethical truths. The jury of Athens did not like Socrates because he challenged what the Greeks believed and knew. The jury decided to execute Socrates with hemlock. His friend tried to bribe the judge with just exiling Socrates. Plato was one of Socrates students who continued his legacy. Socrates didn't write anything down, Plato his student wrote everything down. Plato wrote a book called the Phaedrus on Socrates and everything he did.

Cyber Day IV!
Today we have yet another dreaded cyber day. As much as I hate cyber days, I love them because now they won't take from our spring break or have us stay in school until June 20th or something. Today's assignment Mr. Schick is having us research on three Ancient Greek buildings, write a short paragraph on it, and post pictures with it as well. I think this is an easy assignment, but I will put a lot of effort into it so I get the full 20 points for my grade.
The Acropolis
The word Acropolis means "high city". An Acropolis is many temples built on a hill that watch over the city of Athens. Pericles ruled Athens from 461 BC- 429 BC when he died. Pericles was in charge of the building of the Acropolis. One temple is the Propylaea which is built in honor of Athena Nike. Athena was the goddess of victory. Her temple was used as Athens treasury, the people of Athens would store their money there. The next temple was the Erechtheum, this was not a common Greek temple because of its design. The Erechtheum is dedicated to Poseidon, the god of seas. His temple was built with two levels instead on one, they did this because the ground was not even. The Parthenon is the biggest temple on the Acropolis. The reason why this is the most important temple is because it is dedicated to Athena Parthenos, the patron goddess of the city. The temple was huge, there were 8 columns in the front and 17 columns on each side! The temple was also covered with beautiful sculptures, which are now at the British Museum. In the Parthenon there is a 12 meter high statue of the Athena Parthenos. Fun Fact, the statue had 1 ton of gold in it and it costed the same amount as the building!
Olympia
This is one of the most important sanctuaries in Greece. When we hear the word Olympia, the first thing that comes to mind is the Olympic Games. The first games occurred in 776 B.C. In 471 B.C. the games were now a five day event. The games included boxing, pentathlon (long jumping, discus, sprint, javelin, and wrestling), horse and chariot racing, and pancrateon ( free-style fighting), and track events. The main buildings include: the Temple of Zeus, Philippeion, and the stadium . With Zeus's temple we can really only see the south colonnade because an earthquake destroyed some of it. Olympia started to be built about 4,500 years ago and 3,000 years ago the sanctuary was built. In 476 B.C. after the Greeks defeated the Perusians, they decided to build a temple in dedication to Zeus. When the started to build this almighty temple, they decided that they wanted the temple to stand out from anything and everything. Fun fact, they say that the first Olympic Games took place in 776 B.C., but archaeological evidence says otherwise. The evidence states that it could not have happened until a little before 700 B.C. after the stadium and hippodrome was built.
Greek Theatre
They would build theatres on the slope of a hill, so they could get great elevation in the last few rows of seats. The steps would get covered in marble. They divide the auditorium with broad concentric belts called diazomata. They used diazomatas as lobbies and they had eleven rows of seats separating them. Where you sat was arranged by your rank and other things. The rows closest to the orchestra were reserved for members of the council and the rest were for the public. Fun fact, greek theatre began with festivals honoring the gods and goddesses. With greek theatre the architecture of the theatre was the orchestra, the scene, and the main one which was the Koilon.
Just want to say, Mr. Schick, I loved this assignment. I really enjoyed learning about the different things the Greeks made and came up with!
